Over a weekend in July, Matt and I cleaned out the basement and decided we desperately needed to have a garage sale, so on a Saturday in August, we had our first garage sale. I have to admit we didn't pull it of without a fight or two, but we did pull it off, and actually made a little money.
After the dust settled from the garage sale, we put Madison to bed and tried to relax, but Madison wasn't falling asleep and kept fussing in her bed. Matt decided to go check on her, and when he did, he realized she was burning up. We took her temperature and sure enough she was running a pretty high fever. Matt then checked her heart rate with our stethoscope, and he didn't like what he heard. It was faster then he had ever heard it before. I asked him if we should go to the hospital, and he thought we better go.
Nervously, we headed to the hospital. Madison was very upset, and we tried to stay calm and comfort Madison. When we got to the hospital, we didn't really have to wait too long, but. . . it seemed like forever. Well, by the time they checked her heart rate, it was a little high, but nothing to be concerned about. Her fever had also come down probably due to the Motrin we had given her. We were re-leaved.
The doctors at the hospital thought that the strep she had a few weeks earlier never completely went away, due to the fact that she never finished her antibiotics. (We left for vacation up north and forgot them. . . yes, we REALLY felt bad now.) We left the hospital feeling like horrible parents with another prescription for strep.
This time we were sure to give Madison her medicine religiously. Well, a few days later, our daycare provider noticed some spots on Madison. When she asked me about it, I wondered if she didn't have another outbreak of strep, and instead hand, foot, and mouth disease. . After consulting a nurse at the pediatricians office, we concluded that she probably did in fact have hand, foot, and mouth disease and not strep. (Okay, so maybe we weren't horrible parents after all!) :)
